Risk "Natural Disasters"

Even though the world has achieved unbelievable things for the development of science and technology, we are still unable to regulate the course of nature. Though we are today able to predict a number of natural disasters, we are still unable to prevent them.

Taking into consideration the complications that many travellers had encountered due to the volcanic activity in Iceland, BTA has expanded its travel insurance service by introducing additional risk coverage – “Natural Disasters”. This means that all travel insurance policyholders whose policy includes this risk will have their losses covered, if such losses are caused by natural disasters – floods, storms, fires, volcano eruptions, tsunamis, earthquakes.

That is why, when buying any of BTA Travel insurance programmes, do not forget to insure yourself against problems that natural disasters may cause!

What kinds of expenditures are covered?
Now the “Natural Disasters” insurance, pursuant to provisions of standard programmes, will compensate the following expenses also in case they will have been caused by natural disasters:

  • Medical expenses, repatriation, emergency evacuation expenses, expenses of a person accompanying someone who is injured/ill
  • Medical expenses within the borders of the Republic of Latvia
  • Expenses in the case of a lost or stolen passport, i.e. money spent on food and accommodation resulting from the renewal of the passport or receiving another valid travel document
  • Expenses caused by incompatible flight departure and arrival times, that is, the cost of a new ticket or changes to your current ticket if a flight is missed due to the cancellation/delay of the first or the second flight
  • Expenses caused by delayed flights – the cost of food, accommodation and transport to/from a hotel You will be entitled to compensation in all the said cases if these risks are covered by your basic Travel Insurance Basic Programme.

The price for insurance against the risk of “Natural Disasters” is EUR 12.

For instance,
If a client chooses the Gold Programme for a period of 10 days, the total premium will be made up of the standard price for the Gold Programme plus the payment for the inclusion of the risk of “Natural Disasters” in the policy. Thus, the policy will cost:
10 days*EUR 2.80 + EUR 12 = EUR 40
If you buy the risk coverage “Natural Disasters” and subscribe to Travel Insurance Golden Programme, BTA will, in the case of a natural disaster, compensate you for medical expenses, lost or stolen passport, as well as incompatible flight arrivals/departures, because these risks are provided for in the Gold Programme.
On the other hand, if you have chosen the Required Programme, your insurance will, in the case of a natural disaster, cover medical expenses and expenses incurred as a result of a lost or stolen passport (this basic programme does not provide any other coverage).

Travel insurance with coverage of the risk of “Natural Disasters” can be purchased here, by phone: 26121212, or at any BTA branch.
