Cargo insurance

BTA insures all cargoes according to the ICC regulations (A, B, C) adopted by the Institute of London Underwriters, which are transported:

  • by road, sea, rail or air;
  • to Latvia, from Latvia or as transit cargoes.

BTA offers the following cargo insurance policies for its customers:

  • An individual policy for a single cargo delivery;
  • A comprehensive policy for regular cargo deliveries.

The following factors apply when appointing the insurance premiums and tariffs in cargo insurance – the value and the type of cargo, the type of packaging, the direction and the route of delivery (Western Europe, Eastern Europe and other countries), the distance, the type of transport used and places of re-loading, intensity of deliveries (a single run, regular runs), insurance conditions and/or other insured risks.

Tariffs are fixed as follows, depending on the factors enlisted above:

  • for marine transport – in the range from 0.25-2.5% from the amount of insurance;
  • for rail transport - in the range from 0.2-1.5% from the amount of insurance;
  • for road transport – in the range from 0.2-2% from the amount of insurance.

Insurance is also valid over the period of storage and reloading of cargo. It is possible to insure the cargo according to its actual value or by including the transportation expenses in the amount of 10%.
